Serving Our Community Together: The Power of Volunteers and Community Impact
A strong community is built when people come together to care for one another.
At The Salvation Army – Surrey Ministries, we see this every day. Behind every meal served, family supported, and program offered is a community of people who choose to give their time, resources, skills, and compassion. Our work is not something we do alone—it is something we do together.
Every Helping Hand Makes a Difference
Volunteers are an important part of our ministry. Some serve regularly, while others give their time when they can. Some help sort and organize donations, assist with food distribution, welcome people at the front desk, or support special events. Others contribute their skills in ways that may happen quietly behind the scenes.
Whatever the role, every volunteer helps create a welcoming place where people feel seen, respected, and cared for.
In 2025, more than 330 volunteers generously contributed over 2350 volunteer hours to Surrey Ministries. These numbers represent more than hours—they represent people choosing to invest in their neighbours and their community.
Community Impact Happens Together
Our volunteers are only one part of the larger picture. Local businesses, donors, community organizations, church members, staff, and supporters all play a role in helping us respond to needs in Surrey.
For example, food surplus donated from our local supermarket partners (Walmart on 88 Ave. and Prakash's No Frills) helps make our weekly food distribution possible, while financial and in-kind donations help us provide practical assistance to individuals and families facing difficult circumstances.
When these contributions come together, the impact reaches much further than any one person could achieve alone.
There Is a Place for You
Serving your community does not have to mean making a huge commitment. Sometimes, it begins with a few hours, a helping hand, a donation, or simply sharing information with someone who needs support.
As we look ahead to a new season, we invite you to consider how you can be part of serving Surrey together.
Because when we give what we can, work together, and care for our neighbours, we can make a lasting difference—one person, one family, and one act of kindness at a time.
